Job Description

ADC is seeking an experienced Graphic Artist to work in our Woodbridge, VA office supporting various DoD customers including U.S. Army Night Vision and Electronics Sensors Directorate (NVESD) and US Army Project and Product Management Offices and commercial projects.

The Graphic Artist will serve in a major way supporting both U.S. Army and Contractor personnel transforming and interpreting ideas and information into visual products (i.e., illustrations, publications, exhibits and visual aids to support briefings). Additionally, the artist will develop new visual effects in support of ADC’s Multimedia, Video and eLearning development projects.

The ideal candidate is proactive, brings fresh ideas to the table, views challenges creatively and can act on them effectively.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Apply knowledge of both visual arts methods, techniques, and materials and the subject matter to be depicted in order to develop various design/visual aid projects.
  • Serve in a major role, transforming and interpreting ideas and information into visual products.
  • Plan, research, and collaborate with others on the subject matter to be depicted or presented.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication, correspondence and customer-service skills.
  • Create new visual effects; adjust to change/emphasize of certain details/aspects of the subject matter itself.
  • Develop and design layouts across all mediums, both print and electronic, that have a clear focus, theme, and message for intended audiences.
  • Transform spoken or written descriptions of items, processes, issues, events, or ideas - without benefit of existing pictures, models, or diagrams - into original designs, concepts, or visual treatments/representations that present and clearly communicate the concepts for printed publications, static and video presentation materials, or exhibits.
  • Meet with the customer (e.g., author, editor, or program official) to learn the information objectives of the project, points to be emphasized, relationships to be stressed, and the relative degree of importance of various pieces of the information to be disseminated.
  • Offer options and make initial decisions on design matters (e.g., size, layout, kind and quality of materials, medium, color schemes, typography, lighting effects, or specific visual elements to be incorporated (e.g., photos, illustrations, videos, etc.)).
  • Determine how best to present specified subject matter information, to include assessing whether there is sufficient information and visual material immediately available and identifying possible sources of additional information and material needed to develop a visual product.
  • Coordinate product development with the customer to ensure that standards and expectations are met and that any and all products conform to the desired specifications.

Required Skills:

  • Shall possess knowledge and expertise required to plan visual products that interpret subject matter content information provided by the customer
  • Shall possess the capability to develop a full range of high-quality, visually attractive graphic design services (e.g., planning, designing, developing, executing, producing, duplication, etc.)
  • Shall possess proficiency in both print and online design
  • Shall possess demonstrated experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (i.e., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Motion Graphics or Video editing software such as AfterEffects or Premiere
  • Shall possess expertise in interdepartmental coordination and communication
  • Shall possess experience defining style and designing for communication
  • Shall possess a demonstrated ability develop multimedia storyboards
  • Shall possess both hand and computer-aided sketch and illustration capabilities
  • Experience working in video production and 3D environments (preferred but not required)

In order to qualify for this position you must have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Multimedia, Graphic Design, or other design-related field OR relevant work experience.
  • A Minimum of 3 years post-education experience producing original designs and custom layouts for presentations, briefs, publications, or other content for interactive multimedia products.
  • Your graphic portfolio, either in print or online, to demonstrate experience.
  • A current/active Secret clearance or be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
  • Military experience (preferred but not required)
  • Previous experience supporting a U.S. Military or Government project office (preferred but not required)
